Random pictures from our way back

(Sunday, 1 March 2009)

Travel times also reminded me of Laos, where you looked at the map and it seemed plausible to ride 100km in 3 hours or so, but it ended up taking the all day to make the distance.

Our transportation from Semuc Champey back to Lanquin was due to arrive at 10h30, but it arrived at 12h30 instead. On time – but Guatemalan time. Luckily, we had a quick connection at Lanquin, but only to discover that the 5pm bus to Guatemala City from Coban didn’t exist and we had missed the last one for 15 minutes.

There were no pick-ups available, so we ended up taking the first overnight bus to the capital at 1h30 am, as we needed to be back for work on Monday morning. Sleeping in a crowded mini-van – not recommended. It took me 2 days to recover the bad night of sleep…

We had to "kill" time in Coban, as we waited for the night bus. "La Posada" is a beautiful (yet expensive) place to do that, by the fire place. Yep, it was cold.

Random pictures from the street shops and market at Lanquin.
