Coban – Lanquin – Semuc Champey

(Saturday, 28 February 2009)

Here we are, in the pick-up, leaving Lanquin before the road gets worse.

Coban is the biggest settlement in the Central Highlands, but has nothing to point out about it, really. But Lanquin (in the photo) is a nice small market village of Mayan origin, surrounded by green hills.

Lanquin - Semuc Champey: the last 13km are done in a pick-up, to go through a (really really) bumpy road.

It reminded me of the movie Lost Highway. The one I never managed to see from beginning to end because I'd always fall asleep half way through. Desculpa, P! ;-)
.
The fact that the mini-bus stops every 5 min to get more people onboard partially explains the duration of the trip. The fact that the last 10km to Lanquin are run in a bumpy unpaved road explains the other bit.

Coban - Lanquin: 2 hours mini-bus ride to go through 65 km.
